The Akita is a dog with a strong personality, instinctive and dominant. Not recommended for first-time owners. Bred to hunt big game, it should not be trusted with smaller animals, dogs and cats (especially of the same sex).
Recommended for children who behave maturely when growing with them. The presence of an adult is recommended whenever the dog comes into contact with children. This dog is naturally inclined to guard and protect people and property.

For this reason, obedience training is recommended from an early age. Future owners of this breed should be trained in consistent, fair and benevolent leadership if they wish to have a long and balanced relationship with the Akita. Low likelihood of stress when abandoned or left alone.

The Akita has a thick coat, two layers (undercoat & guard), of medium length. In Japan, white dogs are treated with honour, while the western world prefers bicolours and brindles. It requires moderate grooming and sheds once or twice a year. In Japan, white dogs are treated with honour, while the western world prefers bicolours and brindles.
